Demystifying the employee experience for the whole organization [REPORT]

By David Zinn

Organizations are continually tasked with understanding what their employees do, the tools they use to accomplish their work, and the environment in which they operate, and 70% of HR executives recognize the need for overall digital transformation. Just as the technology evolves, workplace culture must continue to be an utmost priority for leaders – and not just those in the C-suite.

Yes, technology can empower employees to seamlessly collaborate and innovate; but sociocultural experiences need to match up with the organization; and an engaging physical workspace encourages collaboration and multisensory stimulation.

Forward-looking organizations are already sharply focused on the employee experience, according to KPMG’s 2019 Future of HR study. When it’s integrated correctly, your organization can attract, engage and retain the right workforce.

Here’s how organizations can optimize the employee experience in this increasingly competitive marketplace.

Analyzing the workforce and current technology:

Today’s workforce wants to feel like they are contributing—adding value to the company and having an impact on its goals and strategy. By taking an in-depth look at employees’ individual responsibilities, then identifying tasks to be automated and offloaded, employees and the organization both can benefit. With process automation and artificial intelligence, basic tasks can be accomplished without human intervention, enabling employees to focus on adding value rather than office tedium.

Consumer-grade technology and tools that deliver a new world of seamless and tailored experiences are now commonly expected in the workplace. This is especially important to today’s workforce who grew up with ubiquitous technology and want their employer’s enterprise technology to be on par with the technology they use in their personal lives. Leading HR software vendors like Workday, for example, enable organizations to provide an employee experience that is mobile-first, easy to use, and completely personalized. From onboarding to daily tasks and continued career development, employees have access to the right information, at any time, no matter where they are or what device they’re using.

Assessing current regulation:

When it comes to integrating cutting-edge technologies and re-evaluating how work is being done, it’s important to foster a culture of compliance. Whether through webinars or other training programs, it’s important to have the right guardrails to mitigate any forms of risk, misuse or misconduct.

This requires the entire organization to take responsibility for their actions and instill a program that prioritizes integrity as highly as productivity and revenue. Robust training programs and other offerings are a start to an enhanced culture of compliance, but the best results stem from individuals consistently working from a code of ethics, regardless of rank or organizational hierarchy.
