2020 Gen Z Consumer Insights [REPORT]

inZa Lab announced the release of its 2020 Gen Z Consumer Insights Report: How Gen Z Confronts Uncertainty. The report provides an in-depth look at how Generation Z (born between 1996-2010) has changed amidst the political, environmental, economic, and social turmoil of the past year.
The report uses first-hand survey data to examine Gen Zers’ stance on technology and data privacy, advertising preferences, spending habits, and future plans regarding their professional and personal lives.
Key findings include:
- Gen Z uses news apps. Over 80% of Gen Zers access their news primarily through mobile news apps, an overwhelming increase from last year’s 19.9%.
- Gen Z is unhappy with the direction the country is headed. A staggering majority of Gen Zers are “dissatisfied” or “extremely dissatisfied” with the direction the country is taking in terms of politics, the environment, social issues, and the economy.
- Gen Z values privacy. 70% believe companies should not be allowed to sell their data to advertisers, and 56% believe their online data will be used in a harmful manner.
- Gen Z values music more than social media. 86.9% of Gen Zers would rather give up social media when asked to choose between music and social media.
