Cities advance on hosting Univision Youth Soccer Tournament

UCI Live, Univision Communications Inc.’s (UCI) in-house experiential marketing unit, has selected four communities as finalists in bid to host the inaugural Prospects Cup: Anaheim/Irvine, California; Ft. Lauderdale, Florida; Houston, Texas; and Kissimmee, Florida. To be held December 18-22, 2017.

Prospects Cup is a global event that will bring 16 soccer teams from around the world to compete for the sport’s first youth world championship. Using the Little League World Series as a model, the tournament looks to crown the world’s best under-12 boys team.

As part of the bidding process, announced in Dec. 2016, UCI Live will conduct meetings and site visits with sports, civic and public sector leaders from each of the finalists’ regions over the next three weeks.  In March, one city will be selected to host the inaugural soccer tournament.

Produced by UCI Live, the company’s newly-launched live event and experiential marketing unit, the tournament will follow United States Soccer Federation guidelines to govern the rules of the event. Univision Deportes will broadcast Prospects Cup as well as other U-12 events as part of its overall strategy to promote soccer among youth.

UCI Live’s inaugural Prospects Cup will kick-off with an opening ceremony and the unveiling of the official draw taking place on Sunday, December 17, 2017. The round-robin tournament will include eight youth teams based in the U.S. and eight teams from clubs around the world and will be spilt into two divisions. The group winners (based upon cumulative points) of each division will compete on Thursday, December 21, 2017. The division champions (from the U.S. and international divisions) will face off in the championship match on December 22, 2017.
