Kiddos Magazine and Amigos For Kids kick off Partnership

KIDDOS Magazine, a Florida based, kids focused magazine, whose mission is to help strengthen the bonds between parents and their children by providing value-based content and activities, announced it will be partnering in 2018 with Amigos For Kids, a non-profit organization dedicated to preventing child abuse and neglect by strengthening families and educating communities, to coincide with National Child Abuse Prevention Month in April to help disseminate awareness and education of child abuse prevention.

According to ChildsStats.gov, five children die every day in the U.S. for abuse or neglect, and more than three out of four children are under four-years-old. Similarly, one in four children are bullied in this country each month, and more than 43% of middle school students (grades 6-8) have threatened to harm another student. Children who bully at age eight are four times more likely to have a criminal record at age 30.

Given these grim statistics, and a report by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services which notes that the majority of child abuse cases result from conditions that can be prevented through community programs, systems, support and interventions, the importance in designating April as National Child Abuse Prevention Month is critical. Since 1983, April has become an annual observance in the United States dedicated to raising awareness to prevent child abuse.

The purpose of the partnership between Kiddos Magazine and Amigos For Kids is to exponentially:

• Create awareness about the national epidemic of child abuse through articles in Kiddos Magazine, joint interviews with the media, community events sponsored by both Amigos For Kids and Kiddos Magazine where parents and children can interact with educators and experts to share key information to prevent child abuse.

• Educate both parents and communities about the availability of programs such as those sponsored by Amigos For Kids including: the Jose Martí Park after-school program and the Amigos Strengthens Families & Communities parenting program

• Prevent child abuse through educational campaigns such as Amigos For Kids Blue Ribbon There’s NO Excuse For Child Abuse! ® and Broken Crayons ™

“With the pervasive nature of technology invading our everyday lives, there is a vacuum right now in how families interact with each other and how parents pass along their values to their kids”, said Veronica Lepere, editor of Kiddos magazine. “At Kiddos, our focus is to help instill those family-based values through the magazine and to strengthen the bonds between families by sharing activities the whole family can participate in. The content is meticulously selected and provided by top professionals in different areas of expertise to help parents identify some of the issues their kids are going through such as bullying, social exclusion, and behavioral problems. By partnering with Amigos For Kids, we are committing to disseminating education about child abuse, which is fueled by lack of family values and interaction, and education, in order to help prevent tragedies.”

Rosa Maria Plasencia, President and CEO of Amigos For Kids remarked: “It is imperative that we educate as many parents and communities as possible to help prevent child abuse in all its forms, and more tragedies from occurring in the future.  We are very excited to be partnering with Kiddos Magazine— their philosophy about instilling family-based values and parental education is at the core of abuse prevention. Uniting forces helps us reach many more people and we encourage more organizations and companies to join us in spreading the word about child abuse prevention.”
