Bergen Performing Arts Center Presents: Ballet Gran Folklorico de Mexico.

On Thursday, November 4 at 8 PM at the Bergen Performing Arts Center located at 30 North Van Brunt Street in Englewood, NJ.

A world wide traveling company of 35 singers, dancers and musicians, under the general direction of Theo Shanab, Lino Ortega and Maria Elena Ramos perform regularly around the globe including the United States and Canada, Europe, Asia and South America. The folk dances performed by the Ballet Gran Folklorico de Mexico, though arranged for the stage, have a background of the heritage of Mexico especially that of the original inhabitants, such tribes as Mayas, Otomis and Aztecs have outstanding artists among their descendants, as well as among the Mstizos (people of mixed Indian and white descent).

Theo Shanab, the Artistic Director of the Ballet Gran Folklorico de Mexico and winner of the coveted first prize in folklore and the World of Folklore Festival in Yugoslavia in 1976, has preserved the authenticity of costumes, dances and music. He integrates genuine folk artists, musicians and dancers, maintaining, a high artistic level throughout the performance.

The colorful, rhythmic, pulsating show is presented in a swirl of authentic costumes with mariachi, marimba and jarocho bands providing exciting musical settings for the panorama of Mexican Song and Dance.
