Celebration Of Tejano Heritage Month.

San Antonio-based TexasTejano.com in conjunction with The Alamo Legacy and Missions Association (ALMA), a local non-profit organization that provides “living history” reenactments to educate youth and adults about Texas history, announce the schedule of celebratory events to be held throughout June in recognition of Tejano Heritage Month as designated by the State of Texas, Bexar County and the City of San Antonio.

Organized to bring awareness and education about the true contributions and lives of Tejano pioneers, the events will vary from historic commemorations to educational, governmental, community and religious activities. Founded by Rudi R. Rodriguez, TexasTejano.com has spent the last three years producing, publishing, promoting, and marketing Tejano printed matter, electronic media, educational materials as well as a traveling exhibit to elementary, junior high and high schools, colleges and universities, and historical societies, museums and libraries around the state.

One of the company’s earliest accomplishments was the printing of the autobiography of Jose Policarpio “Polly” Rodriguez, Rudi’s great-great uncle and one of the first settlers of San Antonio and Bandera, Texas. The book, “A Tejano Son of Texas,” is the first and only autobiography available anywhere about the life of a Texas Tejano. The exhibit of the same name showcases the life of Polly in pictures and describes his experiences as Texas Ranger, minister, surveyor and army scout.

“These events are integral to helping our community understand the rich history of our state,” says Rodriguez. “We believe that the public will be fascinated by the unknown stories of these Tejano heroes and will experience a redefined version of how our governments, towns, missions and roads were developed.”
