Reader’s Digest Launches Bilingual Publishing Program.

Reader’s Digest Children’s Publishing has announced that it will now publish bilingual editions of some of its best-selling books as part of a new English/Spanish publishing program. “North America has a rapidly growing population of Spanish parents for whom English is a second language,” said Harold Clarke, Vice President/Publisher of Reader’s Digest Children’s Books.

“Our English/Spanish publishing program is a way to meet the needs of the children of Spanish-speaking parents who want to preserve their native language while their children learn English. Since Reader’s Digest already publishes books in many languages, we feel we are well suited to be doing this. We have the necessary experience and track record to be active in the quickly maturing bilingual market.”

Many book and retail chains already carry bilingual books. “We are encouraged that these retailers are serving bilingual customers everyday in their stores,” says Clarke, “and that’s why we are excited to be bringing out these new bilingual books.”

The first four books to be published as part of Reader’s Digest Children’s Books English/Spanish publishing program are Baby’s First Bible, Baby’s First Prayers, A Child’s First Bible, and A Child’s First Prayers, four bestsellers from The First Bible Collection(R). The First Bible Collection makes religion more accessible and appealing to even the youngest child. Titles from the series have already sold 1.3 million copies combined. All of the new books will retail for $12.99.
