San Antonio Museum Of Art Garners Mitchell A. Wilder Award.

The San Antonio Museum of Art (SAMA) was the recipient of a Mitchell A. Wilder Award from the Texas Association of Museums for excellence in publication and media design in the category of Invitations and Announcements.

The invitation, produced for the “Maestros De Plata: William Spratling and The Mexican Silver Renaissance Exhibition” opening, garnered a Mitchell A. Wilder Award, Silver Citation. The award winning piece was designed by Creative Civilization – An Aguilar/Girard Agency.

“Because of our confidence in the quality of work that Creative Civilization produces, we were enthusiastic about the piece we submitted to the Mitchell A. Wilder awards competition,” says George Neubert, San Antonio Museum of Art executive director. “This award exemplifies the caliber of work the museum strives for in all of its publications.”

Competition entries are not judged on content, but on design, consistency, clear vision, aesthetic unity, attention to detail and overall effectiveness of design. The judges are selected for their understanding of a museum’s need to communicate effectively through publication design. Mitchell A. Wilder, founding director of the Amon Carter Museum in Fort Worth, strove for quality and excellence in museum publications throughout his career and recognized achievement in graphic design and media production.

“We have had the honor of designing advertising and collateral materials for the San Antonio Museum of Art for more than four years,” says Gisela Girard, Creative Civilization president and COO. “This award recognizes our commitment to working with this prestigious museum.”

Along with the award-winning invitation, Creative Civilization has designed numerous collateral pieces for SAMA, including work produced for the “American Impressionism: Treasures from the Smithsonian American Art Museum” exhibit; “Asian Art Lecture Series”; “Treasures of Ancient America: Highlights from the Dom Joseph Judge Collection” exhibit; “Scrolling Lotus: 500 Years of Chinese Blue and White Porcelain” exhibit and the upcoming “Fire & Ice, Dale Chihuly, Installation SA” exhibit.
