Nash Finch Launches National Program For Denver Hispanic Community.

Nash Finch, a national food retailer and distributor based in Minnesota, announced the grand opening of specialized food stores to serve the growing Hispanic marketplace. The first store in Denver, Colorado carries an array of products and services long sought by the Hispanic shopper and never before offered on this scale by a national chain.

“We are delighted to officially open the first AVANZA store,” Ron Marshall, President and CEO of Nash Finch stated,” because we believe our approach–developed and tested, by and for Hispanic people–fills a real need for this expanding national market. AVANZA food stores efficiently provide the products, as well as a comfortable and familiar environment, befitting this important community.”

“We were also deeply honored by the participation and support of the Honorable Consul General of Mexico, Leticia Calzada. Consul Calzada was most gracious in both her public and private remarks, stressing the importance of this kind of cooperative retail effort that so directly benefits people of Mexican descent residing in the United States. Her involvement added immeasurably to our ceremony and has inspired us to continue to serve AVANZA customers–both in Denver and beyond–in a manner matching her own enthusiasm and commitment,” Marshall concluded.

Nash Finch selected Denver for its first store based on the large concentration of Hispanic area residents, plus focus group testing and market research that confirmed the potential of the locale for the citizens and the company alike.

“Our opening reflects the growing impact of this culture, now exceeding 35 million citizens and representing approximately 12.5 percent of the total U.S. population,” Marshall added. “The Hispanic population grew at a rate of nearly 58 percent in the last decade.”

“It is also important to note that every aspect of our new Hispanic format is the product of ongoing market research, extensive focus group study and constant modification,” Marshall continued. “The word AVANZA provides a short, easy-to-pronounce and memorable name that simply means `advance’. By making sure that our approach remains current and appropriate, the partnership of AVANZA stores and the Hispanic community nationwide will do just that…” Marshall concluded.
