NAMIC To Launch Diversity Roundtable @ Annual Conference In New York.

NAMIC announced it will hold a newly-formed Diversity Roundtable as a forum for cable/telecommunications industry diversity practitioners to discuss and share diversity information, challenges and best practices during The 15th Annual NAMIC Conference: Digital Media & Diversity being held September 10-12, 2001, at the Millennium Broadway Hotel in New York City.

The NAMIC Diversity Roundtable was established in April 2001 and is designed to advocate for increasing diversity through the industry, advise the industry on issues from the practitioners’ standpoint, establish relationships with non-industry diversity organizations, partner with NAMIC to conduct diversity research, and develop a diversity track for the Annual NAMIC Conference during Diversity Week.

Two Workshops produced by the NAMIC Diversity Roundtable include “Making the Business Case for Diversity,” being held Monday, September 10 from 2:00- 5:00 p.m.; “Diversity is Not Just HR’s Job: Recruitment and Retention of a Diverse Workforce,” on Tuesday, September 11 from 2:45-4:15 p.m.; and “Diversity is Not Just HR’s Job: Internal Diversity Management,” on Wednesday, September 12 from 1:45- 3:15 p.m.

“We are excited about NAMIC’s Diversity Roundtable. It is not only designed as a forum of discussion, but also to provide NAMIC with expert advice on and support for our diversity initiatives from our industry’s diversity practitioners,” said Kathy A. Johnson, Executive Director, NAMIC.

The Diversity Roundtable is open to any diversity practitioner/manager in the telecommunications industry. The Roundtable was founded by A&E Television Networks, AT&T Broadband, Charter Communications, Comcast Cablevision, Comedy Central, Lifetime Television, MTV Networks, and NBC.

Master Courses and track sessions on Marketing and Product Content; New Media and Content Delivery, and Fostering Diversity will also be offered during the Conference. In addition, NAMIC will present its fourth annual Excellence Awards in recognition of operators and programmers who have demonstrated foresight in developing ethnic-targeted marketing and public relations strategies.

The Conference is held over a three-day period and is targeted to marketing and operations personnel as well as programming content providers in the telecommunications industry.

NAMIC was founded in 1980 as the National Association of Minorities in Cable to educate, advocate and empower for the cause of diversity in the telecommunications industry. With its unique focus in the urban marketplace, NAMIC educates the broadband industry on marketing approaches, programming interests and operations strategies for our nation’s ever changing cities.
