The New York Metro Chapter of the Ronald McDonald House Charities/Hispanic American Commitment to Educational Resources (RMHC/HACER) announced Willy Chirino, 2006 GRAMMY Award winner for Best Salsa/Merengue Album for Son del Alma, and his full orchestra, performed at a private concert gala on Saturday, Sept. 24, 2011. The concert benefitted the 2011-2012 Hispanic high school RMHC/HACER scholarship program.

For more than 24 years, RMHC/HACER has awarded over $6 million in scholarships to more than 1,000 seniors in the New York Tri-State area, making it the nation’s largest Hispanic financial aid program. In 2012, RMHC/HACER will grant $500,000 in scholarships as part of its 25th year anniversary. To help reach this monetary goal, Chirino committed himself to giving the scholarship program full access to his talent and music.

“We’re grateful to have Willy Chirino unconditionally support our scholarship program and offer his time and talent to help us raise funds for next year’s winners,” said Ana M. Madan, RMHC/HACER gala committee member and McDonald’s Owner/Operator. “Willy is not only a great friend, but a great humanitarian who is always looking for ways to give back to our Hispanic children and community.”

The gala was themed “A Night in Havana, Intimately with Willy Chirino.” Guests reminisced and relived Cuba circa 1950’s, when the island was at the peak of its gilded age. The concert took place at the estate of Juan and Marta Gutierrez, successful Hispanic business owners, in Colts Neck, New Jersey.

“As an artist it’s always exciting to give back to the community that has supported and given so much to me,” said Chirino. “I am thrilled to be a part of this gala and know that my work will help fund the dreams of many high school students.”
