NAB Enlists Radio & TV Stations To Combat Underage Drinking.

As the prom and graduation season approaches, teens and parents prepare to celebrate successes and look toward the future. But when celebrations involve alcohol, teens are putting their futures at risk.

The National Association of Broadcasters is once again enlisting radio and television stations across the country in an effort to prevent underage drinking. NAB has just released its Celebration Prom • Graduation 2003 guide that provides broadcasters with ideas for programming and promotions. Now in its 20th year, the guide offers a series of “Celebrate the Future” ideas for broadcasters to air interviews featuring teens discussing their plans for the future after graduation.

The guide encourages stations to air discussions with teens on how teenage drinking and/or drinking and driving could ruin their future; it also suggests that broadcasters invite parents, school officials, police and other adults to provide their thoughts on underage drinking – and how best to help teens celebrate smart.

The 2003 NAB guide also offers a series of public service announcement scripts that broadcasters can easily tailor to their station’s needs. Thousands of broadcasters will be receiving the guide in the mail in the coming days.

The National Association of Broadcasters is a full-service trade association that promotes and protects free, over-the-air local radio and television stations’ interests in Washington and around the world. NAB is the broadcaster’s voice before Congress, federal agencies and the courts. NAB also serves a growing number of associate and international broadcaster members.
