CBS & Recording Academy Grammys 2002.

The Recording Academy will stage the 44th Annual Grammy Awards on February 27, 2002 at Staples Center in Los Angeles, it was announced by Academy President/CEO Michael Greene. Greene and Leslie Moonves, CBS President and CEO, announced that the show would be broadcast on the CBS Television Network from 8 – 11 p.m. (live in the East, tape delayed in the West), marking the 29th consecutive year the show has been broadcast on CBS.

Los Angeles Mayor Jim Hahn, and President of Anschutz Entertainment Group (AEG) and STAPLES Center Timothy J. Leiweke welcomed the Grammys again to Los Angeles for the fourth year and the third consecutive Grammy show at STAPLES Center. They were joined by a number of recording artists including Mary J. Blige, A.B. Quintanilla, Dave Koz, Shea Seger, and Tyrese, as well as other key industry executives and VIPs.

“We are so pleased to be here in our hometown with our spectacular partners — CBS, STAPLES Center and the city of Los Angeles — to announce that the 44th show will be in our backyard,” said Greene. “The festivities, events and activities of the L.A. Grammy Host Committee, comprising the 44th Annual Grammy Awards and Grammy Fest, will provide an excellent opportunity to further enhance the Recording Academy’s cultural and educational outreach in L.A. and throughout the world.”

Also announced at the press conference was the Recording Academy’s new landmark contract with CBS, which will keep the annual Grammy Awards broadcast on the CBS Television Network through the year 2006.
