Latin GRAMMY Awards @ Miami.

The Latin Recording Academy will stage the 2nd Annual Latin GRAMMY Awards on Sept. 12 at the American Airlines Arena in Miami, it was announced by Recording Academy and Latin Recording Academy President/Chief Executive Officer Michael Greene.

The show — which will feature performances from some of the genre’s biggest artists — will be broadcast domestically by the CBS Television Network and is expected to be seen internationally in more than 120 countries.

On hand to help Greene announce plans for the 2nd Annual Latin GRAMMYs were Alex Penelas, mayor of Miami-Dade County; Mauricio Abaroa, senior vice president/executive director of the Latin Recording Academy; Jorge Mas Santos, president of the Cuban-American Foundation; Neisen Kasdin, mayor of Miami Beach; Jack Sussman, senior VP of specials for CBS Television; William Talbert III, president/CEO of the Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau; Nicki Grossman, president/CEO of the Greater Fort Lauderdale Convention & Visitors Bureau; and Eric Woolworth, president of American Airlines Arena; as well as prominent members of the music industry, community business leaders and representatives from the state of Florida.

Many celebrated recording artists were also present for the announcement, including Bacilos, Carlos Ponce, Carlos Vives, Chris Duran, Danny Rivera, Diego Torres, Eduardo Verastegui, Innis, Jon Secada, Jose-Jose, Kike Santander, Luis Enrique, Marcella Morelo, MDO, Pablo Montero, Rudy Perez, Shalim, Soraya, Tito Nieves, Tommy Torres, Tony Vega and Willy Chirino.

The weeks leading up to the Latin GRAMMY Awards feature a month-long Latin GRAMMY Fest — a celebration that will showcase the vitality, quality and diversity of the Miami and Latin cultural communities. Latin GRAMMY Fest events will be produced by local non-profit organizations and will include concerts, educational events, exhibits, performances, workshops and receptions.

“We are honored to host this prestigious event before the world and are excited to work closely with the Academy in hosting the many cultural and educational events leading up to the Latin GRAMMYs,” said Miami-Dade County Mayor Alex Penelas. “I can think of no other host community with the same social, cultural and entertainment connection to the Latin community.”

The 2nd Annual Latin GRAMMY Awards will be broadcast domestically by the CBS Television Network from 9-11 p.m. (EDT and PDT). The network will also distribute the show internationally through CBS Broadcast International. Last year’s show marked the first time a largely Spanish-language program was aired in prime time in the United States, and its successful reach, prestige value and unique musical content was a powerful addition to the network’s offerings.
