Telemundo announces finalists for 2012 Billboard Mexican Music Awards.

Telemundo announced the list of finalists for the 2012 Billboard Mexican Music Awards Presented by State Farm to air live on Thursday, October 18 at 7pm/6c from The Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, California.  The list of finalists of the only award show that honors the albums, songs and most popular singers of Regional Mexican music based on Billboard chart performance, was led by 3BallMTY, Gerardo Ortiz, Espinoza Paz, La Arrolladora Banda el Limon de Rene Camacho, Julion Alvarez y Su Norteño Banda, America Sierra, Jenni Rivera, Shaila Durcal, Vicente Fernandez and Joan Sebastian.  The complete list of finalists is available at http://www.Telemundo.com/premiosbillboard> , the official website for the 2012 Billboard Mexican Music Awards presented by State Farm™.  Fans can also follow the awards via Facebook.com/PremiosBillboardTelemundo and Twitter.com/@LatinBillboards

At the 2012 Billboard Mexican Music Awards presented by State Farm, finalists will vie for top honors in 33 categories, including Artist of the Year, Album of the Year, Song of the Year, Artist of the Year-New, Digital Download Artist of the Year, Airplay Artist of the Year, and various categories for Banda, Norteño, Ranchero/Mariachi and Duranguense/Grupero/Cumbia Music.

Topping the list of finalists in 12 categories is newcomer sensation group 3BallMTY; the trio of tribal, electronic and cumbia fusion music DJ’s performed for the first time in the USA at the inaugural Billboard Mexican Music Awards in 2011, and their career has catapulted since then. 3BallMTY is a finalist for Artist of the Year, Artist of the Year-New, Artist of the Year-Duo or Group, Albums Artist of the Year, Songs Artist of the Year, Digital Download Artist of the Year, and Duranguense/Grupero/Cumbia Artist of the Year. 3BallMTY’s album “Intentalo” reached No. 1 on the Regional Mexican Albums chart and No. 2 on the Latin Albums chart, earning finalist mentions in two categories including: Album of the Year and Duranguense/Grupero/Cumbia Album of the Year. 3BallMTY’s song “Intentalo” Featuring El Bebeto and America Sierra was one of the year’s most popular songs reaching the top of the Billboard Latin Songs chart, earning finalist mentions in the Song of the Year, Song of the Year-Vocal Event and Duranguense/Grupero/Cumbia Song of the Year categories.

Top winner, with six awards at the inaugural Billboard Mexican Music awards in 2011, Gerardo Ortiz continued to enjoy a strong year and is an 11-time finalist in 2012. His song “Amor Confuso” spent four weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Regional Mexican Songs chart and has remained in the top 10 for 30 weeks.  The album “Entre Dios y el Diablo” debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Latin Albums chart and the Regional Mexican Albums chart. Gerardo Ortiz is a finalist for Artist of the Year, Artist of the Year-Male, Songs Artist of the Year, Digital Download Artist of the Year, Albums Artist of the Year, Norteño Artist of the Year, and Songwriter of the Year.  His album “Entre Dios y el Diablo” competes for Album of the Year and Norteño Album of the Year; while his song “Amor Confuso” vies for Song of the Year and Norteño Song of the Year.

Talented singer/songwriter/producer Espinoza Paz is also a finalist up for 11 awards in 10 categories including Artist of the Year, Artist of the Year-Male, Songs Artist of the Year, Digital Download Artist of the Year, Albums Artist of the Year, Banda Artist of the Year, Songwriter of the Year and Producer of the Year . The albums “Canciones Que Duelen” and “Un Hombre Normal” by Espinoza Paz are finalists for Banda Album of the Year, while his song “Para No Perderte” is finalist for Norteño Song of the Year.

La Arrolladora Banda el Limón de Rene Camacho is competing for nine awards including Artist of the Year, Artist of the Year-Duo or Group, Songs Artist of the Year, Airplay Artist of the Year and Banda Artist of the Year. The album “Irreversible…2012” competes for Album of the Year and Banda Album of the Year; while their song “Llamada De Mi Ex” is a finalist for Song of the Year and Banda Song of the Year.

Julión Alvarez y Su Norteño Banda is up for six awards including Artist of the Year-Duo or Group, Airplay Artist of the Year and and Banda Artist of the Year. The group’s “Olvidame” song competes for Song of the Year and Banda Song of the Year. Alvarez is also a finalist for Producer of the Year.

Leading female singer America Sierra is a five-time finalist including the coveted Artist of the Year-Female and Artist of the Year-New.  The other three finalist mentions are for the song “Intentalo” by 3BallMTY on which America Sierra is a featured vocalist along with El Bebeto. 

Finalists up for four awards include Jenni Rivera, Shaila Durcal, Vicente Fernandez and Joan Sebastian.  Those up for three awards include Banda el Recodo de Cruz Lizarraga, El Bebeto and Tierra Cali.  Banda La Trakalosa, DJ Morphius, El Pelon del Mikrophone, El Trono De Mexico, La Adictiva Banda San Jose de Mesillas, La Original Banda el Limon de Salvador Lizarraga, Los Bukis, Los Tigres Del Norte, Lucero, Pepe Aguilar, Violento, Voz De Mando and the late Selena are finalists for two awards. 

Finalists and winners of the Billboard Mexican Music Awards are determined by chart performance as chronicled in Billboard Magazine and on billboard.com during the eligibility period of August 27, 2011 through August 18, 2012. Award categories are based on album and digital track sales data provided by Nielsen SoundScan and radio airplay monitored by Nielsen BDS.
