National Association of Hispanic Publications Conference Shows Growth.

For four days representatives from the 200 member National Association of Hispanic Publications (NAHP) participated in events, workshops and dialogue addressing the growing power of Hispanic Print in the U.S. Miami-Dade Mayor Alex Penelas keynoted Friday?s luncheon where he stated that Miami was doing so much business with Latin America, that it was now considered “the Capitol City of the Americas.”

Anna Escobedo Cabral, President of Hispanic Association on Corporate Responsibility (HACR) commented that Corporate America was increasing its attention on the Hispanic market and its respect for the Hispanic leadership of HACR.

Tony Plana, Star of Showtime’s Resurrection Boulevard, commented on the need for more Latinos in prominent acting roles on television and the movies, and the importance of supporting his show in order to open the door for others to follow.

Victor Cabral of Verizon presented a $50,000 check to the NAHP President during Saturday?s Gala Dinner as its commitment to work on strengthening corporate relationships with NAHP.

NAHP members also elected during this convention a new board for a 2-year term.

Zeke Montes (Teleguía, Chicago), was reelected as President;
Hernán Guaracao (Al Día, Philadelphia), was elected as Vice president;
Robert Armband (La Raza, Chicago), was reelected as Vice president of Marketing;
Lino Domínguez (Mundo Hispánico, Atlanta), was elected as Treasurer;
Ray Guerrero (El Latino, San Diego), was elected Secretary.

Commenting on last week’s annual convention, NAHP President Zeke Montes stated, “We were delighted to be hosting our convention in Miami shortly after the U.S. Census reported that Latinos had a 60% increase in its population growth since the last census ten years ago, increasing the number of Latinos in the U.S. to 35.4 million. We were also very pleased with Corporate America?s increased participation at our convention with almost $300,000 in sponsorships. While this was the most successful NAHP Convention to date, I want to extend an invitation to all of you to next year?s convention in Dallas, Texas where we are optimistic to do even better”.
