Sears Concert Stage To Groove Miami’s Calle Ocho Festival.

Sears, Roebuck and Co. is turning up the heat at the Calle Ocho Street Festival by offering Miami music fans a chance to meet members of two leading salsa and merengue bands “Puerto Rican Power and Los Toros Band” when the bands perform at the Sears Concert Stage on Sunday, March 10, 2002.

Puerto Rican Power’s hit song, “Tu Cariñito,” is a chart-climbing success in the U.S. and Latin America. In 2001, the band received the “Rumba de Oro” award in Ecuador and was named “Salsa Success #1” in Colombia. The band recently released their second album, “Wild, Wild, Salsa,” featuring Gilberto Santarrosa, Victor Manuelle and Justo Betancourt.

Los Toros Band, a 15-member merengue band, has performed throughout Central and South America, Europe and the United States. The band has received more than 20 awards, including “Band of the Year,” “Concert of the Year” and “Production of the Year” from Acroarte, an association of Dominican Republic music critics.

The grand prize winner of the Sears’ “Star of Calle Ocho” sweepstakes, which runs from February 16, 2002, to March 3, 2002, will receive limousine transportation to and from the festival, four free passes to the VIP area, and a $500 Sears gift card. The winner also will help introduce the salsa headliner band, Puerto Rican Power, at the Sears stage, in addition to having their photo taken with band members.

As part of the sweepstakes, the Fiesta Mobile will kick-off its U.S. tour by visiting eight stores in the Miami area. Now in its seventh year, the Sears Fiesta Mobile consists of two customized motor homes with multimedia capabilities, offering interactive games, prizes and musical events at Hispanic events across the country.
