Terra.com Launches National Amateur Beach Soccer Championship.

Terra Lycos announced the launch of its Terra Gol Soccer Championship, which will take place in major U.S. Hispanic markets. The tournament is the first-ever national amateur beach soccer championship.

The tournament has evolved into the premier summer event for the U.S. Hispanic market, with hundreds of players already registered. In Miami specifically, the match has sold out with over five hundred players and 50 teams geared up
for Saturday’s match. Soccer is one of the fastest-growing sports in the world, and Terra Lycos research concludes it is the preferred sport of the U.S. Hispanics, followed by baseball and basketball.

“We are very pleased to see that the Latino amateur soccer players are responding positively to the tournament,” said Manuel Bellod, General Manager, Terra.com. “We wanted to create an important event for the amateur soccer player and Latino families, as well as a highly targeted, fun off-line experience that communicates what Terra.com is all about.

Five popular beach areas have been selected for the championship: South Beach (Miami), Orchard Beach (New York), East Galveston Beach (Houston), Montrose-Lake Front (Chicago) and Long Beach (Los Angeles).

The program also has an online component, allowing Latinos everywhere in the country to participate in beach soccer via an electronic soccer game.

The championship will kick off on August 4 at South Beach. Five fields will be set up on the sand, and more than 50 teams are expected per city. Each team will consist of 10 players.

The event will also offer fun, such as live Latin bands, a DJ and ethnic food vendors, for the friends and family members attending the event in support of teams and the players.

South Florida’s Romance Radio 106.7 will broadcast the Miami event live, while the Telemundo Television Network will broadcast the championship nationally. Two Adidas/MLS (Major League Soccer) professional soccer players will be on hand to sign autographs. Each player will receive a free ticket to a Miami Fusion soccer game.

The tournament is played in various divisions: Boys, Girls, Men and Women. These divisions are broken down into the following categories: Under 10, Under 12, Under 14, Under 16, Under 19, Open (adult, no age restriction) and a Premier Division.

To sign up a team to compete in the championship, team captains must register via www.Terra.com, clicking on the Terra Gol banner and filling out the registration form by August 1.

Each player will receive two Terra Gol T-shirts and a lunch voucher. The winning team will receive cash prizes and trophies. For more information, please contact 1-888-myterra.
