Census Bureau Releases Census 2000 Information On Nation’s Group Quarters.

The Commerce Department’s Census Bureau released Census 2000 data via the internet on the country’s group quarters population by race and Hispanic origin.

The statistical tables divide the group quarters population into residents of institutionalized facilities and residents of noninstitutionalized facilities. The tables subdivide the population by sex and four age groups. The tables show these data for the total population and by the population who reported one race only for the following categories:

White;

Black or African American;

American Indian and Alaska Native;

Asian;

Native Hawaiian and Other Pacific Islander; and

Some other race.

Other tables show the corresponding data for those who reported only White, not of Hispanic or Latino origin; Hispanic or Latino origin (who may be of any race), as well as for those who reported two or more races.

More extensive data on age structure and types of group quarters, along with data on other short-form questionnaire items, such as households, families, household relationship, housing occupancy and housing tenure (whether the householder owns or rents) will be released later this year.
