Live Coverage Of 2002 MLB Player Draft On MLB.com.

MLB Advanced Media, LP (MLBAM), the interactive media and Internet Company of Major League baseball, announced that its radio station, MLB Radio, will once again provide the only live broadcast of the First-Year Player Draft.

MLB Radio, the nation’s only all-baseball Internet radio station, will provide live streaming audio coverage of every pick of the 2002 Draft on June 4th and 5th, beginning with a one hour pre-draft shown at noon Eastern time on June 4.

MLB.com, the official website of Major League Baseball, will also offer postings of the draft picks. The website will provide exclusive informational capsules of more than 500 eligible players, and video clips of more than 200 players.

The Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft has been held every year since 1965 in June by conference call among the 30 Major League Clubs. The Clubs take turns selecting players in reverse order of their won-loss records at the close of the previous regular season, with National and American League Clubs alternating selections. The Draft concludes at the end of the 50th round of selections.

The following is the order of selection for the first round; Pirates, Devil Rays, Reds, Orioles, Expos, Royals, Brewers, Tigers, Rockies, Rangers, Marlins, Angels, Padres, Blue Jays, Mets, Athletics, Phillies, White Sox, Dodgers, Twins, Cubs, Indians, Braves, Athletics, Giants, Athletics, Diamondbacks, Mariners, Astros, and Athletics

MLB Radio will supplement its live Draft coverage with news, interviews and historical data in concert with Baseball America, one of the country’s premier baseball publications.

“The MLB Draft is one of the exciting events of every season,” said Bob Bowman, CEO of MLBAM. “Hundreds of amateur players will have their dreams of a career in the big leagues fulfilled. In addition, the Clubs are faced with the challenge of choosing from so many talented athletes. MLB.com is pleased to provide baseball fans around the globe with the broadest, deepest, most accurate and timely information about this important event,” Mr. Bowman said.
