WADO-AM In NYC Official Station For MLS MetroStars.

The MetroStars and New York-area Spanish radio WADO 1280 AM jointly announced a new multi-year agreement that will make WADO 1280 AM the official Spanish-language broadcast partner of the MetroStars through the 2004 Major League Soccer season.

“This multi-year deal increases our commitment to the Spanish community for the next three years,” said MetroStars General Manager Nick Sakiewicz. “We are excited about our new relationship with WADO 1280 AM.”

WADO, a 50,000-watts station that can often be heard as far south as Washington, DC, can also be heard online at www.radiowado.com. Previously, MetroStars Spanish-radio broadcasts were carried on Radio Unica 1660 AM, a 5,000-watts station.

“I am very excited about the opportunity to bring the MetroStars to WADO 1280 AM, where I began my radio career in New York in 1995, ” said Ernesto Motta, “The Voice of the MetroStars” as well as the team’s Director of Spanish Broadcasting, Communications and Public Affairs. “Fans can look forward to each MetroStars game on live radio, including our popular bi-weekly soccer show ‘Solo Futbol.'”

In addition to Motta, the entire Spanish radio crew of Robert Sierra, Mario Concha, Ruben Sanchez, Gus Rachioppi, and Juan Carlos Faisca will return for their fourth year of bringing MetroStars soccer action to the New York/New Jersey metropolitan area’s vast Spanish-speaking audience.

“We have spent two years trying to bring soccer to our radio station, and now, with Major League Baseball, the National Basketball Association, the National Football Association, and MetroStars broadcasts, we have completed the cycle,” said WADO 1280 AM Director of Programming Dany Ortiz. “We listened to our audience regarding their broadcast preferences, and it is a great honor to be involved with a professional again such as Ernesto Motta and the entire MetroStars organization.”

The MetroStars Spanish broadcast program “Solo Futbol” will begin in February, airing every Thursday night for one hour at 6:00 p.m. ET, and every Sunday night between 8:00 – 10:00 p.m. ET.
