Telemundo’s Premier Of ‘Anaconda’ Sets Record.

Over 2.2 million viewers tuned in to Telemundo’s “Cinemundo Premier” (Sunday 9PM-11PM) broadcast of “Anaconda” (2/18/01), which delivered a record-breaking performance, surpassing Telemundo’s prior ratings record established only one week earlier by “Selena”. “Anaconda” delivered a 13.2 HH Rtg and an 8.2 A18-49 Rtg – translating to over 1.2 million adults 18-49. Telemundo beat Univision’s Sunday night competing line-up, garnering a 60% share of adult 18-49 viewers versus its competitor. Telemundo also outdelivered *UPN’s prime time adults 18-49 audience by 7%.

Telemundo’s Saturday night movies and concert presentations (7PM-11PM) have also been winning performers. The adult 18-49 audience of the time period has increased by 16% from the previous month (January ’01), and more than doubled from February ’00 (+125%). In contrast, the competition’s “Sabado Gigante” is down 10% both book-to-book and year-to-year. As a result, Telemundo’s share of adult 18-49 audience has more than doubled from a 19% last February ’00 to a current 36% share.

Telemundo’s weekday primetime novela block (M-F 7PM-11PM) has also successfully increased its ratings delivery from week-to-week in the current February ’01 sweeps – adding approximately 48,000 more adult 18-49 viewers every week. “Betty La Fea” (M-F 8PM-9PM) kicked off the third week of sweeps by delivering a 10.2 HH Rtg – its highest rating to date. Telemundo’s fastest growing novela is the forbidden love-triangle epic “¿Por Que Diablos?” (M-F 9PM-10PM) which has added an average of 72,000 adults 18-49 every week during sweeps.

Telemundo continues to grow in early fringe (M-F 4PM-6PM), increasing its adult 18-49 viewers by 20,000 every week during the current sweep. Telemundo currently holds a 38% share of the adult 18-49 audience versus its competitor; that is a 16 share point increase from February ’00. Telemundo has increased adults 18-49 ratings in this daypart by 88% from last February ’00, and by 14% from January ’01.
