Maya Entertainment will distribute Academy Award and Golden Globe nominee Luis Mandoki's highly controversial documentary FRAUDE MEXICO 2006 The film opens in Los Angeles, Denver and Phoenix on October 10. The film had a bumpy ride to the screen.

"We faced intimidations and threats," says Mandoki. "We landed with Maya because of (CEO) Moctesuma Esparza's activism and his desire to bring awareness."

Moctesuma Esparza, "It is crucial to present this fine film, a cautionary tale, for the entire world. To act with courage despite fear and to speak truth to power is an inspiration for us all."

The critically acclaimed FRAUDE MEXICO 2006 tells the story of the complex and controversial events surrounding the presidential contest between Mexico City mayor Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador and conservative, pro-business Felipe Calderon Hinojosa. In Mexico, "The film has stirred up deep emotions," wrote the NY Times. "Shouting matches and standing ovations were not uncommon." "Gripping," wrote the SF Chronicle.

"I am hoping that the documentary will motivate people to vote," says Mandoki. "To realize the importance and sacredness of what democracy means. At the same time democracy is very fragile. And in Mexico it was completely vulnerable.
