Cavs games to be broadcast in Spanish

The Cleveland Cavaliers have reached an agreement with Murray Hill Broadcasting’s 87.7 FM La Mega to broadcast all 2014-15 regular season and post-season games in Spanish. It is the first time in club history that Cavs games will be broadcast in a second language on Cleveland’s first Spanish radio station.

“We feel privileged to enhance what we started and partner with the Cavaliers organization to deliver to the Northeast Ohio Hispanic community the first play-by-play broadcast of any Cleveland sports team,” said Tom Wilson, 87.7 Murray Hill Broadcasting owner. “La Mega 87.7 replaced rock Cleveland Sound on January 1st to become the first full-service, 24-hour Hispanic radio signal when we partnered with Cincinnati-based TSJ Media, experts in the Hispanic radio arena. The Cavs programming, along with the fabulous Latin music on La Mega 87.7, delivers the ultimate to the Hispanic community.”

With this announcement, the Cavaliers become one of six NBA teams to provide Spanish coverage of all home and road matchups live from the game site. The other NBA teams are San Antonio, Dallas, Houston, Miami and Orlando.

Veteran broadcaster Rafael Hernandez Brito will bring his high energy play-by-play style to each game broadcast. Hernandez Brito was the Spanish voice of Brooklyn Nets home games the past two seasons. He also was the voice of the New Jersey Nets from 1997 to 2001 and also called the action for St. John’s college basketball during that same period. Nationally, his broadcasting experience includes 11 years as the voice of NFL football for Spanish Broadcasts on Univision from 2003 to 2013, and has worked 15 Super Bowls. He was also the Spanish play-by-play voice of the Miami Dolphins, as well as calling games in Major League Baseball and the Mexican League, and has covered the last five Soccer World Cups.

Each Cavaliers broadcast will begin with a 15-minute pregame show, hosted by Hernandez Brito, which will set the scene for the game, including the latest news about the Cavs and the NBA. Following the game broadcast, he will also host the postgame show, which features a complete recap with highlights and postgame commentary.
