El Rey Network announces new programming enhancements

El Rey Network make programming annoucements:

  • Ahead of its July 15th premiere, El Rey Network today announced a 13-episode second season renewal of the cable channel’s spy thriller “Matador” from award-winning writer/producer Roberto Orci.
  • El Rey Network announced plans to debut two new and exciting installments of “El Rey Network Presents: The Director’s Chair,” a series of hour-long specials featuring the industry’s most notable directors engaging in a revealing and unexpected exchange about the world of filmmaking.  Premiering Wednesday, July 30 at 9 PM ET/PT, El Rey Network Founder and Chairman, Robert Rodriguez sits down with longtime friend and Oscar nominated director Guillermo del Toro to discuss his journey from artist to director/producer.  From groundbreaking Pan’s Labyrinth to Hellboy to Pacific Rim to his upcoming series, The Strain, Del Toro reveals the madness behind his monsters.
  • In August, Rodriguez explores the world of cinema with frequent collaborator Quentin Tarantino. Airing in two installments (Vol. 1 premieres Wednesday, August 13, 9 PM ET/PT;  Vol. 2 on Wednesday, August 27, 9 PM ET/PT, the two discuss Tarantino’s film career through the lens of their 20-year friendship, using never-before-seen personal footage to discuss topics from screenwriting and camera placement to Spaghetti Westerns and Kung Fu.  Robert Rodriguez said:  “These are engaging conversations that shed light on the minds of today’s greatest filmmakers.   • Beginning Wednesday, October 8, El Rey Network will expand its commitment to original content with a second night of programming anchored by two new unscripted series, a new one-hour “Lucha: Uprising” (WT) from Emmy Award®-winning producer Mark Burnett featuring character-driven freestyle wrestling; and “Cutting Crew,” chronicling the antics and edgy artistry of a new breed of barbers.
  • El Rey Network has acquired the rights from NBCUniversal Television & New Media Distribution to air all 111 episodes of the Emmy Award® winning series “Miami Vice” it was announced today. From Emmy Award®-winning and Academy Award®-nominated writer-producer Michael Mann, the series, which celebrates its 30th anniversary this fall, became appointment viewing on Friday nights and launched a national fashion trend inspired by the cool whites and colorful pastels worn by lead characters, Detectives James Crockett (Don Johnson) and Ricardo Tubbs (Philip Michael Thomas).
