Entravision Communications Corporation wins Nine 2013 Heartland Chapter Emmy Awards.

Entravision Communications Corporation announced that its Univision affiliate in Denver, KCEC-TV, was honored with nine 2013 Heartland Regional Emmy awards in the following categories by the National Television Academy:

Juan Carlos Gutierrez, winner of this year’s “News Anchor” category and the reporter for “Sobre la mesa” winner of the “Politics/Government – News Series” category, is an anchor for Entravision’s Univision affiliate stations KCEC-TV in Denver and KVSN-TV in Colorado Springs/Pueblo. He is responsible for delivering daily local and national headlines on the Noticias Univision Colorado local evening newscast. He is a graduate of Externado University in Bogotá, Colombia with a degree in Social Communication and Journalism.

Raul Garcia, the photographer and editor of the network’s winning news series “Sobre la mesa,” and “El rostro de la autodeportación,” winner of the “Human Interest – News Single Story” category, is the Chief Photographer for Noticias Univision Colorado. Throughout his career as a professional photographer in the news industry, Garcia has covered a myriad of breaking news stories including the Juarez drug cartel violence and Grito de Independencia. Garcia is a graduate of the University of Texas at El Paso.

Génesis Samayoa, has worked as producer of “Sobre la mesa,” where she was responsible for producing content for the viewers, writing scripts for the newscasts and the website, as well as researching and scheduling interviews to produce comprehensive content.

Vanessa Bernal, reporter of “El rostro de la autodeportación,” is an anchor for Entravision’s Univision affiliate stations KCEC-TV in Denver and KVSN-TV in Colorado Springs/Pueblo. She is an experienced broadcast journalist, who reports on key local and national issues, and has previously interviewed President Obama on immigration reform. Bernal was born in Mazatlan, Mexico and moved to Colorado with her family in June 2011.

Gilberto Companioni, the producer of “El rostro de la autodeportación,” is a multiple Emmy award winning journalist with 25 years of experience as an anchor, reporter, producer and writer for television, radio, print, and online media outlets. Companioni has been with Noticias Univision Colorado for the past six years working as news producer, writer, anchor and reporter, as well as writing, producing and co-hosting the Broncos weekly show “Primero y Diez con los Broncos.”

Rafael Henriquez, reporter for “Negocio verde,” winning news series in the “Specialty Assignment Report – News Series” category, has deep experience working as a reporter, producer and news director in the U.S. and Mexico. Henriquez has worked for Univision local stations in Laredo, Seattle and Denver, and has also held broadcast positions in Los Angeles and Iowa State.

Julio Sandoval, photographer for “Negocio verde,” has had over 20 years of experience in the video production industry. He is currently a Creative Producer for Univision Colorado, and has previously served as a photojournalist for the network. He attended The Art Institute in Ft. Lauderdale, as well as OMNIA Film Institute in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

The Heartland Chapter’s annual awards galas were held on Saturday, July 13th, 2013 to honor the work of television and media professionals in 11 DMAs. In Denver, the awards were presented at the Seawell Grand Ballroom at the DCPA complex.
