Gonzalez named VP of Technology & Operations at Telemundo 47 in NYC

Telemundo 47 / WNJU has named John Gonzalez Vice President of Technology and Operations. An industry veteran with more than 30 years of professional experience as a photojournalist, digital editor and technology supervisor, Gonzalez led the design of Telemundo 47’s state-of-the-art broadcast transmitter and oversaw its launch from One World Trade Center in June 2017. This move resulted in Telemundo 47 being the first Tri-State television station to officially resume over-the-air transmissions from One World Trade Center. Telemundo 47 now has the largest coverage area of any television station in the New York market.

“John is highly-respected. He is an innovator, a leader and a mentor to our field technicians. He’s the best in the field and has successfully spearheaded our station’s transition to new, state-of the-art broadcast and transmission technologies with tenacity and resolve,” said Cristina Schwarz, President and General Manager of Telemundo 47. “I look forward to seeing him achieve even more milestones and pioneering moments in his career and for our station, as Telemundo 47 continues to innovate with newsroom technologies to better serve our viewers.”

In his new role, Gonzalez will continue Telemundo 47’s successful transformation into the most-watched Spanish-language television station in the New York market. This includes implementing digital upgrades to station operational infrastructure and further expansion of the station’s on-line platforms.

“I am privileged to work with so many hard-working professionals, all of whom share a strong commitment to our viewers, their families and the many communities we proudly serve across the Tri-State,” added Gonzalez. “Eighteen years ago, I walked in the door as a freelance photojournalist at WNBC. Since that time, I was fortunate to receive numerous opportunities for advancement within the NBC and Telemundo stations family that have helped me grow in my role. I am humbled, honored and thankful for the continued trust and support that I have been given through the years.”

Prior to being named Vice President of Technology and Operations, Gonzalez served as Director of Technology and Operations for Telemundo 47 for nearly four years. He has also worked as Director of Digital Media and Information for WNBC at NBCUniversal. In addition, he has also held several other leadership positions within NBCUniversal. He earned a bachelor’s degree in Communications from William Paterson University and resides in Bergen County with his family.
