Pasiones to premiere new telenovelas

Pasiones has entered into an agreement with Sony Pictures Television to acquire the rights to three hit telenovelas: El Zorro: La Espada y La Rosa (Zorro: The Sword and the Rose), Doña Barbara (Lady Barbara) and La Prepago (The Escort) for its US cable network. El Zorro, a U.S. cable television premiere, debuted on Pasiones on Tuesday, February 17, and will air Monday through Friday at 6pm ET/3pm PT.

“This deal with Sony reinforces our commitment to deliver top-quality telenovelas and series with proven success records across Latin America to our viewers,” said Francisco Gimenez, general manager of cable networks for Hemisphere Media Group, Pasiones’ parent company.

Peruvian heartthrob Christian Meier brings to life one of the most recognized and beloved heroes of all times in El Zorro (Zorro: The Sword and The Rose), which follows a noble 19th century Spanish-American aristocrat who must choose between his masked identity as Zorro—fighting his nemesis to avenge his mother’s murder and defend the poor—or revealing his true identity to the woman he loves, Esmeralda Sánchez de Moncada (Marlene Favela), and risk losing everything. A co-production of Sony Pictures Television and RTI Colombia for Telemundo, El Zorro has aired in more than 40 countries across Latin America, Europe and Africa.

Doña Bárbara tells the story of a courageous and strong-willed woman who is hardened by her troubled past and must confront her own deep-seeded vulnerabilities in the face of an impossible love. The series features highly recognizable telenovela actors, among them Edith González, Christian Meier and Genesis Rodriguez. Doña Bárbara is a co-production between Sony Pictures Television and RTI Colombia for Telemundo.

Inspired by a true story, La Prepago is the story of a woman living a double life—one as a beautiful university student with a normal love life and family, and the other as a high-class escort who’s paid to satisfy her clients’ appetites—whose destiny will forever change when both of her worlds collide. The series features a large and talented cast including Lilo de la Vega, Luís Eduardo Arango, Andrés Sandoval, Natalia Durán, Julián Román and Katherine del Porto. La Prepago is produced by Sony Pictures Television.
