Telemundo 47 adds to News Team

Telemundo 47 New York / WNJU announced the addition of two more journalists to its growing news roster. Cristian Benavides and Luis Gerardo Núñez have been named Reporters for Noticiero Telemundo 47 at 5:30 PM, 6 PM and 11 PM. Both will work alongside News Anchors Jorge Ramos and Yaima Crespo, Sports Anchor Veronica Contreras and Meteorologist Pedro Montoro. Benavides and Núñez will make their on-air debut in early February.

Benavides, who has been a part of the Telemundo family since 2014, joins Telemundo 47 from sister station Telemundo Phoenix / KTAZ, where he worked as a reporter for the station’s local weekday newscasts. Before this, Benavides worked for Telemundo Washington / WZDC as a political analyst and at Univision Tampa Bay / WVEA as news reporter from 2012 to 2014. An award-winning journalist, Benavides has been recognized with an Associated Press award and two Rocky Mountain Southwest Chapter Emmy® awards for “Outstanding Politics/Government-News Series” and “Outstanding Specialty Assignment Report-News Single Story, Series or Feature.”

With vast experience working in the third and fifth-largest Hispanic markets in the country, Núñez joins Telemundo 47 after working as a reporter for Telemundo 39 Dallas-Fort Worth / KXTX and Telemundo 51 Miami / WSCV since 2013. Before joining Telemundo, Núñez worked as a reporter for MundoMax 8 / WGEN. Núñez earned his bachelor’s degree in Communications from Universidad Monteávila in Venezuela.
