Telemundo to launch an O&O TV Station in Washington DC

A Telemundo Station Group spokesperson stated:

ZGS gave up its spectrum for the Washington, D.C. market earlier this year in the auction which gave us the ability to take back the Telemundo affiliation for this market. The new Telemundo-owned station in Washington, DC will launch in December 2017.

We obtain a memo sent by Jackie Bradford- President and GM to the Washington DC team:

I am very happy to announce that we will launch a new Telemundo-owned station in December that will serve Spanish-speaking viewers in our market. This project will expand NBC Washington news staff with a new team of Spanish-speaking and bilingual journalists to launch the new station. Both news teams will serve Spanish- and English-speaking viewers in the greater Washington, D.C. region.

The new station will operate from our Nebraska Avenue studios and will also include Spanish-speaking and bilingual sales and broadcast professionals.

I’m excited about the opportunity for both stations to work together to deliver English-and Spanish-speaking viewers in our market the outstanding news, weather, investigative and consumer reporting they deserve. Our relationships in the DC community runs deep, and adding resources to serve our Spanish-speaking viewers will make us all stronger.

I look forward to sharing more information about our new sister station at some upcoming town halls. Meanwhile, please feel free to share your thoughts and ideas for how our two stations will be able to work together and thrive.

Thank you for all you do every day to strengthen NBC Washington and NBCUniversal and the communities we all call home.

JACKIE BRADFORD

President and GM
