WAPA America announces contest to create station Jingle

Through the contest “Amo Mi Isla” (I Love My Island), WAPA TV is searching for a viewer-generated song that highlights the island’s positive qualities to be the station’s next official jingle. The winner will receive a $5,000 cash prize and the song will air on WAPA TV in Puerto Rico and on WAPA America, the station’s sister cable network, in the U.S.

“We often see unfortunate stories about Puerto Rico in the news, but there are many positive aspects about the island that go unnoticed. Our objective with this contest is to focus on the qualities that distinguish Puerto Rico as a great island, but in a jingle format,” said Arnaldo Claudio, WAPA TV’s Interactive Director.

To participate, interested residents of Puerto Rico and the U.S. must go to www.wapa.tv/puertorico, complete a form and upload a video no longer than two minutes in length, featuring an original song belonging to the participant. The song can be performed with any musical instrument or sung a cappella; as well as read or memorized. The song must highlight Puerto Rico’s positive aspects; the people, the landscapes, the city, the values, the cuisine, etc. Participants have until midnight on September 15 to enter.

A panel of WAPA judges will select the best 15 videos, from which the public will have the opportunity to vote for their favorite. The five videos with the most public votes will advance to the final round, from which the judges will select the one video that best satisfies the contest rules and embodies the network’s values. In addition to the cash prize, the winner will have the opportunity to professionally record their song.
