Carl’s Jr. Awards Scholarships To Hispanic High School ‘Stars’.

Through its La Estrella Latina de Carl’s Jr. Scholarship, CKE Restaurants, Inc. has awarded 20 university-bound Latino high school students with $1,000 each to help defray college costs.

“For 60 years Carl’s Jr. has been a company committed to being a great community partner,” said Andrew F. Puzder, president and chief executive officer of CKE. “It is in this spirit that we hope to demonstrate to the Latino community that we share their conviction that a good education is the key to opening the door to future success.”

In its third year, the scholarship program honors Latino students who are selected on the basis of academic merit, potential to succeed, leadership and participation in school and community activities, work experience, educational and career goals and an essay about why he or she is a star in his or her community. Financial need and unusual personal or family circumstances also are considered in the selection process. Recipients must reside in Los Angeles, Orange, San Bernardino, Riverside, or Ventura counties.

The scholarship program is administered by Scholarship Management Services, a department of Citizens’ Scholarship Foundation of America, Inc. (CSFA). CSFA is a national nonprofit educational support and student aid service organization.
