Catalina Magazine Partners With HOPE & NAHJ.

With a little help from some of Hollywood’s Latino stars, Catalina magazine, the mid-Atlantic region of National Association of Hispanic Journalists (NAHJ), and Hispanas Organized for Political Equality (HOPE) honor groundbreaking Latina U.S. Treasurer Rosario Marin during their first annual Hispanic Heritage Month event.

Many may not know her now, but Rosario Marin’s name and signature are already folded neatly in millions of wallets. Not only is Marin the highest Latina to currently serve in President George W. Bush’s administration, but she is the first immigrant to become U.S. Treasurer. Marin says she is living a true American dream. “We came to this country because my parents wanted us to have a higher education,” she says. “They wanted to come to provide us with a better education and make a couple of dollars. Now I make all of the dollars.”

Latino Actor/Comedian Cheech Marin (confirmed) and Latina actress Elizabeth Pena (confirmed) will be event’s special celebrity hosts, only stepping aside as Marin’s “boss,” Treasury Secretary Paul O’Neill (invited), presents her with her Groundbreaking award. The six Latinas of Congress, all of which will be in attendance, will be honored as well.

The event is an evening reception on Monday, September 16, from 6 to 9 p.m. in the ballroom at the National Press Building, in Washington, D.C., and it includes live Flamenco music. Event sponsorship details are available at http://www.catalinamagazine.com/advertise.html.
