Catalina Magazine Will Launch For Hispanic Women.

Catalina Magazine, a lifestyle magazine dedicated to the mind, body, and soul of today’s Latinas – will launch May 2002. Catalina will reach Hispanic women specially selected from Latina associations and organizations in major markets throughout the nation. Catalina is bi-lingual, reaching a broader range of U.S. Hispanic woman. It is the only Latina-oriented magazine today whose founder is a Hispanic woman who has written for this specific audience for more than a decade.

Catalina will cater to the mind, body, and soul of today’s busy Latina through articles and interviews with Hispanic celebrities, political leaders, local and national experts, and best-selling authors. The first issue includes pieces submitted by notable Latinas including Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez, TV Journalist Giselle Fernandez, TV Chef Jane Butel, and Actor Cheech Marin. In the second issue (The Career Issue — Summer 2002), First Lady Laura Bush talks to CATALINA about her one-of-a-kind first year of marriage; U.S. Treasurer Rosario Marin shares her journey from a Greyhound bus to Air Force One; and Latina TV Journalists, including Mindy Burbano and Lynette Romero, take CATALINA behind the scenes at work.

“Catalina’s timing is right,” says Catalina’s founder and editorial director Cathy Areu Jones. “It’s the one and only national lifestyle magazine which caters to Latinas and will provide advertisers the opportunity they’ve been waiting for – the opportunity to reach the Hispanic community’s mothers, daughters, and wives all at once.”

All Catalina stories and columns address the Hispanic woman’s concerns about her mind, body, and soul. They include interviews with Latina political leaders, workplace issues, investment tips, money topics, and career trends. There are features on health, beauty, fitness, and fashion — from workout and makeup tips to seasonal fashion picks to healthy Hispanic recipes by notable chefs. And there are inspirational items on parenting, love, relationships, travel, and getaways. Each issue of Catalina also features a cozy, intimate look inside a Latina celebrity’s home. In the first issue, CATALINA visits Latina actress Diana Maria Riva as she unwinds in the kitchen and shows how to make scrumptious gift baskets for loved ones, from scratch.

“We are in touch with what’s needed in the marketplace,” says editor-in-chief Monica Aguilera Hincken. “We are Latinas creating a product for the nation’s Latinas.”
