Latina Media Ventures Strengthens Senior Team.

Latina Media Ventures, LLC announced that Alvaro Saralegui will join the company’s Board of Directors.

Mr. Saralegui is a media veteran who has held senior positions at Sports Illustrated and People before becoming Chief Executive Officer of an Internet media venture. Mr. Saralegui will take an active role in the strategic direction of Latina as the company focuses on building upon the strength of its flagship magazine in the Hispanic marketplace, Latina, and on diversifying into other media.

Latina also announced that Roy Levenson, also a Time Inc. veteran and most recently an executive of WorkingWomanNetwork, is joining the company in the newly created position of Chief Operating and Financial Officer.

Christy Haubegger, who has been the company’s Chief Executive Officer and Publisher, will assume the role of Founder, remain on the Company’s Board and continue her focus on strategic initiatives, advertising and brand development. The company also announced it will begin a search for a new chief executive officer and publisher in the coming months.

Edward Lewis, the founder of ESSENCE Magazine and Chairman and CEO of Essence Communications Partners and a founding investor and significant equity partner with Solera in Latina said, “I could not be more impressed and proud of the progress Latina has made in such a short period of time. Today, the strength of the Hispanic marketplace has never been more apparent and Latina is well poised to capture its potential.”

“I am delighted to join forces with the company’s backers Solera Capital and Ed Lewis, all of whom profoundly believe in this market and this vision,” said Mr. Saralegui. “Latina is particularly well positioned to build on the strong foundation created by Christy Haubegger, as a leading media brand. Over the next several months, leveraging the recent addition of Editorial Director Betty Cortina, we plan to scale Latina into a full-fledged media organization.”

“This is an exciting point in Latina’s history,” commented Christy Haubegger. “Today’s appointments build upon the superb additions we have made over the last several months and reflect the growth and success of the company to date. I am pleased in our ability to successfully attract executives as talented and dynamic as Alvaro and Roy and am looking forward to working with them.”
