Punto-com Changes Name To Poder Magazine.

Zoom Media Group (ZMG) announced it has changed the name of Punto-com magazine to Poder. The Miami-based company said the name change reflects the magazine’s expanding editorial focus on the regional Latin American economy and role as the leading independent pan-regional business magazine for the new generation of business leaders. “It’s funny,” said Isaac Lee, Chairman and Editor-in-Chief of Zoom Media Group, “our name is the last thing we changed. We’ve been Poder in our editorial and in spirit for a long time.”

Punto-com will officially become Poder in its October issue. The magazine revealed its new name in a “second cover” in its September issue. According to Lee, Poder was chosen to reflect the growing power of a new generation of business leaders and a new style of business in Latin America. “Technology and the Internet was just the beginning, the new generation of business leaders is impacting finance, media, services, manufacturing in a huge, powerful way. Our focus is and has been to be the magazine of record for this new style of business.”

ZMG also announced the results of a readers’ survey of its business by eWorld Research. The survey found that 98% of the magazine’s readers are business decision makers for finance, strategy, technology and other areas, that over 20% of the magazine’s readers are CEOs/Presidents/top management and that 79% are under 45 years of age. “We found the readership population to be very interesting,” commented Ivan Casas, President of eWorld Research, “they are young but very powerful, well off and forward looking. For example, over 36% of readers spend over $5,000 a year on personal vacations, over 54% of the readers are involved in making corporate strategy decisions and over 23% own and use WAP phones.” “It makes sense,” commented Casas, “it reflects the growing youthfulness of the region: in its population, culture and now in its business leaders.”
