Aztlan Fest 2001 – Celebrating Chicano Underground Music.

The Aztlan Fest 2001 will be held on Thursday May 17, at Fiesta Hall in San Diego and Sunday May 20, at the Grand Olympic Auditorium Grounds in Los Angeles.

The festival will hit San Diego on Thursday May 17 with a line-up that will work its way up to the 45+ artists for Sunday May 20 at the Grand Olympic Auditorium Grounds, featuring the most popular Chicano talent California has to offer. In Los Angeles, the festival will have 3 Stages with performances representing all the genres involved.

Featuring such artists as Voodoo Glow Skulls (who have just returned from en European Tour), Union 13 (who will head out on the Epitaph Punk-O-Rama Tour this summer), Las 15 Letras (Atwater/Echopark natives hit the tour in support of their independent sophomore album titled ‘Ya Era Tiempo,’ produced by John Avila (bassist for Oingo Boingo), Caradura (Northern Cali’s prodigal ska-punk sons), Chencha Berrinches (Southgate natives, these kids are growing up & still keeping it raucous), Skarnales (Houston Texas rockabilly skansters), Los Alex (energetic melodic punksters from Tijuana will warm up before entering the studio to record their first album on upcoming L.A. based indie label SourPOP) and Orixa (Northern Cali punk).

Other bands confirmed on the Aztlan Fest 2001, are Engrave, Infamy, Rhyme Poetic Mafia, Earthquake Institute, N.M.E., and more.

Festival organizer Aztec Entertainment President, Mario Cobian comments on the range of bands and mission, ‘our goal is to promote the often overlooked Chicano Underground rock and rap genres. In doing so we’ve created one of the most unique festivals in the country-reaching young and informed Bilingual and Bicultural Chicano audiences.
