Hip-Hop Summit Goes to College.

Russell Simmons and the Hip-Hop Summit Action Network announced the convening of its first Hip-Hop Collegiate Empowerment Summit, scheduled for Thursday, November 21 at Morehouse College in Atlanta, GA.

The Summit will begin at 1 p.m. at the Martin Luther King Chapel on the Morehouse campus. The purpose of the Summit is to present to college student leaders from throughout the metropolitan Atlanta area, career opportunities in industries related to hip-hop. Russell Simmons, Chairman of the Hip-Hop Summit Action Network and Chairman of Def Jam Records, along with his wife Kimora Lee Simmons, Director of Baby Phat Fashions, the Reverend Run of Run-DMC, MTV correspondent Sway Calloway, Jay Cooper from BET’s “Teen Summit,” and Kenny Smith, TNT sports newscaster are among the many panelists scheduled to speak. A Keynote\Address will be given by Keith Clinkscales, CEO of Vanguard Media, which publishes Savoy and Honey magazines. The Honorable Shirley Franklin, the Mayor of Atlanta, will also address the Summit. The Executive Producer of the Hip-Hop Collegiate Empowerment Summit is Jash’d Belcher, CEO of JEI.

“We’re looking forward to being in Atlanta to encourage college students to address the key social, economic and political issues that are important to the hip-hop generation,” commented Simmons.

“This will be a great learning opportunity for anyone who is seriously considering hip-hop as a career path,” added Dr. Benjamin Chavis, President of the Hip-Hop Summit Action Network. “This will be our first Hip-Hop Summit to be convened on a college campus, and we in the hip-hop community take the issue of education very seriously.”
