Sears ‘Los Heroes de mi vida’ Essay Contest.

Sears will recognize Hispanic Heritage Month (Sept.15 – Oct. 15) by inviting kids of Hispanic heritage to write an essay describing how a person in their life inspired them to realize their goals and dreams through the “Los Heroes de Mi Vida” essay contest.

“Sears is proud to recognize the contributions of individuals in helping develop the youth of today into the Hispanic role models of the future,” said Gilbert Davila, Sears vice president of multicultural management. “Los Heroes de Mi Vida” essay contest is a way to strengthen the company’s connection with our Hispanic customers. We hope the essays serve as inspiration for all.”

The contest is open to youth between the ages of 12 to 18 of Hispanic heritage. Written essays must be between 200-500 words and can be submitted in either English or Spanish. Submissions must include entrant’s name, age, complete address and phone number (and that of entrant’s parent or legal guardian, if entrant is a minor), and must be received by October 25, 2002. Prizes include:

Grand prize — $5,000 cash and a $1,000 Sears gift card
First prize — $2,500 cash and a $500 Sears gift card
Second prize — $1,000 cash and a $500 Sears gift card

In addition, each winner, along with their nominated honoree, will be featured in the February 2003 issue of Nuestra Gente magazine, the nation’s largest ABC-audited Spanish-language publication with a distribution of 865,000.
