Miguel Perez Joins WADO Radio 1280 AM In NYC.

WADO Radio 1280 AM announces Miguel Perez, the award-winning journalist and columnist, as the host of Primera Plana-Sin Censura.

Having spent the last 25 years chronicling North America’s Hispanic heritage and covering the New York metropolitan area’s Latino community, Perez was the natural choice. Perez starts his show Monday, February 26, 2001, and has said he will use the 10:00am-12noon slot to deal with racism, immigration, bilingualism, affirmative action, political empowerment, and other pressing issues affecting Hispanics today. With Perez at the helm, WADO Radio 1280 AM is sure Primera Plana-Sin Censura will become one of New York’s most exciting and popular call-in radio programs.

During his career, he assumed the identity of an illegal immigrant; first, seeking employment in New York City sweatshops for a series of articles scheduled to appear in The Daily News, and in 1995, he crossed the US-Mexican border with groups of illegal immigrants for The Record. In 1994, he flew with “Brothers to the Rescue” to search for Cuban rafters adrift in the Florida Straits. He has toured the Cuban and Haitian refugee detention camps at the U.S. Naval Base in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, and later accompanied a group of doctors to earthquake-devastated Armenia, Colombia. Last year, he returned to Miami to try explain to his readers why the Cuban-American community felt so emotional about the Elián Gonzalez case.
