New York’s Latino Mix 105.9-FM & Radio WADO 1280-AM Unfold Their F.D.N.Y. Tribute Calendar.

Hispanic Broadcasting Corporation (“HBC”), and its New York City radio stations WCAA Latino Mix 105.9(FM) and Radio WADO 1280(AM), are proud to announce the arrival of their 18-Month Tribute Calendar, honoring the F.D.N.Y. – Hispanic Society of Firefighters and EMS Personnel.

HBC New York began its effort to introduce a calendar honoring the Hispanic firefighters of New York several months before the September 11th tragedy. By August of 2001 a total of 18 firefighters and members of the EMS personnel had posed for photographer D.C. Laure. After the 9-11 tragedy, the focus of the effort changed dramatically, when two of the featured firefighters, Hector Tirado, Jr. and Angel Juarbe, Jr., perished in the disaster. HBC New York is now honoring the memories of Hector and Angel, and all of these brave heroes, in this 18-month tribute calendar. The calendar starts in the month of July 2002, with monthly firefighter images, through December 2003. Proceeds for the calendar go directly to the F.D.N.Y Hispanic Society of Firefighters of New York.

“All of the FDNY personnel involved in this project after the disaster view it as a positive means of coping,” says Jodi Mutnansky, Marketing Director for HBC New York. and Project Coordinator. “It has come to mean more to the Hispanic community, and definitely to the families of the victims featured in the calendar, than could ever be imagined. We believe that a simple idea like this can make a difference in this time of need.”

“Just like the other firefighters who are involved in the project, we knew that Juarbe and Tirado, Jr. were very excited about participating in the calendar,” says Stephanie McNamara, Vice President and General Manager of HBC New York, “so we made the decision to move forward and now we have a remarkable, tangible tribute to them.”
