Mexican National Soccer Team Partners With Telemundo.

The Mexican National Soccer Team (MNST) announced a broad partnership with U.S. national Spanish-language television network Telemundo to broadcast all of the Mexican National Team’s exhibition and official games. The partnership is expected to help strengthen the Team’s path to the 2002 World Cup and bring US fans closer to the Team.

“Our partnership with Telemundo is a win-win for our team, the network and our US fans. It will strengthen our already strong fan base in the States and provide our players with the exposure and support they need from their fans to help make it to the World Cup,” said Eduardo Aguirre, CEO of Terject Services Limited, owner of the USA merchandising rights to the Mexican National Soccer Team.

“We are pleased to be the official television network of the Mexican National Soccer Team in the U.S.,” said Jorge Hidalgo, Senior Vice President, Sports for the Spanish-language network. “Our sports viewers have a keen interest in following the Mexican Team from the practice matches to the World Cup qualifying games. We’re delighted that our partnership with Terject will make this possible.”

Through this agreement, Telemundo Network will establish a relationship with the Mexican National Team that is totally unprecedented. Telemundo will gain exclusive access to all Team events, games and practices as well as the right to call itself “The Official US Network of the Mexican National Soccer Team.” The two-year deal will extend through the end of World Cup 2002 and include a minimum of 17 games.

Upcoming games that will be broadcasted by Telemundo include:

— US v. Mexico on February 28

— Mexico v. Jamaica on March 24 or 28

— Mexico v. USA on June 30 or July 4

The Mexican National Soccer Team currently ranks 2nd in the CONCACAF region, which includes North and Central America and the Caribbean, and 12th in the world.
