Noticiero Telemundo 52 ….. Posts Six Golden Mike Awards.

The Radio and Television News Association of Southern California (RTNA) recognized “Noticiero TELEMUNDO 52” newscasts with six Golden Mikes, including “Best Half Hour Newscast,” at this year’s 51st Annual Golden Mike Awards presentation and ceremony, which took place on Saturday, Jan. 20, 2001, at the Universal Hilton Hotel, Universal City.

The weekday evening 6 p.m. and 11 p.m. newscasts captured a total of six recognitions in the categories of “Best Half Hour Newscast,” “Best Newscast Writing,” “Best Spot News Reporting,” “Best Hard News Series Reporting,” “Best Light News Series Reporting” and “Best Video Editing of a Feature Series or Special.”

“This is an exciting time for our newsroom. We’re in the midst of major change and restructuring, and even though our newscasts are still work in progress, it was satisfying to be recognized with these Golden Mikes,” said Victor Abalos, News Director of Noticiero TELEMUNDO 52.

The RTNA signature in Southern California is the Golden Mike awards program. Annually, the RTNA recognizes outstanding efforts in television and radio categories covering a broad range of news activities. The Golden Mike awards have become synonymous with excellence in broadcasting and professional achievement.

“These recognitions propel the growth of a new era and energize the news staff to continue striving for excellence in news gathering,” said Fernando Lopez, Vice President and General Manager of KVEA-TV, Channel 52. “I commend our news staff for their outstanding performance last year and look forward with great anticipating to the future,” he closed.
