Global Impact and Adoption of AI [REPORT]

PwC released Bot.Me: A Revolutionary Partnership, a new Consumer Intelligence Series report that provides a comprehensive look at the global impact and potential of artificial intelligence (AI).

The 2017 report was constructed from insights gathered at a 2017 event gathering AI experts and a survey of 2,500 U.S. consumers and business leaders on attitudes towards AI and its current and future implications in society. Key findings include:

  •     AI is no longer viewed as primarily a corporate tool to increase automation, but instead as an emerging technology to be leveraged to handle global challenges – 63% of consumers agree that AI will help solve complex problems that plague modern society.
  •     Consumers and business decision makers believe AI can help solve large-scale issues such as closing the education gap, establishing cures for cancer and other diseases, and even gender inequality challenges.
  •     We’ll be seeing more of AI’s impact on our daily lives in the near term: 58% of respondents said that, if they were to turn to AI as an assistant in the next 5 years, it would likely be as a tutor, and 22% of respondents stated that they would be likely to turn to AI assistance for a doctor.
  •     AI is also providing a competitive edge on the business front, as 72% of business decision makers believe that AI will be the business advantage of the future.

The 2017 AI report also highlights trends in the use of AI within companies, including:

  •     How AI can shift human tasks from menial to strategic, freeing up time for innovation and the broader, bigger-picture thinking that can lead to transformation
  •     Where AI provides the greatest business advantages, and how it can be leveraged across an enterprise
  •     The integration of AI into customer service roles, and where customers are most willing (and sometimes eager) to embrace AI
