Telemundo partners with NCLR & CHCI on El Poder de Saber.

Telemundo, The National Council of La Raza (NCLR) and the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute (CHCI) announced a joint partnership around the network’s 2011 multiplatform educational campaign “El Poder de Saber” (The Power of Knowing). Now in its eighth year, the company-wide effort focuses on promoting the educational advancement of young Latinos, with an emphasis on secondary education and preventing high school dropouts among Hispanic youth. The partners will work together to provide advice, tools and solutions to students, parent and teachers, join forces at key consumer events, leverage in-house experts and amplify their efforts through online and co-branded collateral material.

“CHCI is proud to join Telemundo in its ongoing efforts to promote education for Latinos through the “El Poder de Saber” campaign as a means to building a better future for our community and our country,” said Esther Aguilera, CHCI President & CEO.  “For 34 years CHCI has worked to develop the next generation of Latino leaders and we share Telemundo’s vision to promote educational advancement and opportunity for Latino youth and young professionals.”

“I know firsthand the power a good education can have.  It happened for my family and we need to make it happen for millions of other Latino families in this country.  We commend Telemundo for their commitment to, and investment in, this most important project,” said Janet Murguia, President and CEO, National Council of La Raza.

“El Poder de Saber” reaches the community through compelling on-air public service announcements featuring well-known Telemundo celebrities, “on the ground” local efforts and a website (www.telemundo.com/ElPoderDeSaber) that offers information and practical tools to support students and parents. The initiative also serves as the Spanish-language counterpart to “Education Nation,” NBC News’ initiative to engage the country in a solutions-focused conversation about the state of education in America. That effort has already resulted in successful “Education Nation on the Road” events in Chicago, Los Angeles, and Philadelphia. The initiative will culminate in the Education Nation Summit in New York City the week of September 25, with a gathering of policymakers, elected officials, educators, parents, business leaders, and engaged citizens in a national discussion about the challenges and potential solutions spanning today’s education landscape.

“We are honored to have NCLR and CHCI join ‘El Poder de Saber.’  Their long standing commitment to education in the Hispanic community makes them the perfect partners to help us take this campaign to the next level,” said Alfredo Richard, SVP of Communications and Talent Strategy at Telemundo.  “The problem of low educational attainment in the Hispanic community requires a comprehensive and unified approach.  Partnerships like this one will allow us to help young Latinos advance in their education and be better prepared to succeed in life.”
To coincide with this announcement, Telemundo will distribute to a variety of national community organizations, Hispanic leaders, and press, among others, an “El Poder de Saber” mailer, including information about the campaign and a list of education-related resources for Hispanics.
