Latin Alternative Music Conference Concert & Artist Line-up In LA.

Debuting in Los Angeles August 14th ­16th, the Latin Alternative Music Conference (LAMC) Features Several Major Free & Discounted Concerts Open to the Public, Including Shows at California Plaza, Universal Amphitheatre, Santa Monica Pier, and the Knitting Factory

LAMC Adds Additional Artists to Lineup, Including 4-Grammy Nominee Natalia Lafourcade, the Chart-Busting Hip-Hop act Akwid, and Argentine Songstress Erica Garcia

Featuring the hottest bands in the Latin rock and hip-hop genres as well as many of the music industry’s leading decision-makers, LAMC will be held at the Merv Griffin Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills. Industry panels will be held August 14th & 15th. Among LAMC’s concert highlights are Los Amigos Invisibles / Sidestepper / Acida at the Santa Monica Pier (free show) on Aug. 14, the La Banda Elastica Awards at the Universal Amphitheatre on Aug. 14, Nortec Collective with the Kronos Quartet at California Plaza on Aug. 15 (free show), and Plastilina Mosh & Jumbo at California Plaza on Aug. 16 (free show).

Among the just-added artists to the LAMC lineup are Mexico’s 4-Grammy nominee Natalia Lafourcade, the chart-burning hip-hop duo Akwid, and Argentine songstress Erica Garcia. In addition to the events in Los Angeles, LAMC will hold its Celebrate Brooklyn! Festival at Prospect Park on August 9th in New York. Sharing that bill are Grammy-winning Mexican avant-rockers Cafe Tacuba, Colombia-via-UK Latin groove act Sidestepper, and New York’s acclaimed Afro-Latino-Hip Hop combo Yerba Buena. The conference will also make its Canadian debut in Toronto with a day of panels and a showcase on Aug. 9th.

LAMC/Celebrate Brooklyn! Festival @ Prospect Park (NEW YORK) Although the conference has moved to Los Angeles this year, we are maintaining our presence in New York City. For the third year in a row, LAMC will be bringing amazing talent to the Celebrate Brooklyn Festival stage in Brooklyn’s famed Prospect Park. This year’s performers include Cafe Tacuba, Sidestepper, and Yerba Buena. This event is free and open to the public.

LAMC/Canada Festival (TORONTO)
The Latin Alternative Music Conference makes its debut north of the border with a day of panels and a special showcase.

LAMC Indie Show-Down @ The Knitting Factory
The Indie Show-Down will present the best up and coming artists from the US and beyond, including Los Abandoned, Orixa, Go Betty Go, Panda and several more acts to be announced. This event is a semi-private event, open to LAMC participants and the general public.

La Banda Elastica Music Awards Ceremony
As part of the LAMC, the magazine La Banda Elastica (LBE) hosts its annual awards ceremony honoring artist contributions to the Latin Alternative genre. This is a semi-private event, open to LAMC participants and the general public.

Santa Monica Pier (free show)
An evening of cutting-edge music by the sea, including Venezuelan acidjazz-funk party mongers Los Amigos Invisibles, Colombian electronica act Sidestepper, and the Argentine trip-hop of Acida.

Acoustic Writers Showcase
One of the most magical events of the conference, the Acoustic Writers Showcase features unplugged sets by some of the biggest names in Latin music, performed for an intimate crowd of about 500+ conference participants and special invited guests. This year’s acoustic showcase includes Jumbo, Plastilina Mosh, Los Amigos Invisibles, Moxi, Erica Garcia, and PostData featuring Ivan Benavides of Sidestepper and formerly of Bloque.

LAMC/Grand Performances @ The California Plaza
LAMC presents the first of two evenings of open-air concerts in conjunction with Grand Performances at the California Plaza Water Court in Downtown Los Angeles. This will be an enchanting summer evening outside, near the water, under the stars – with performances by Mexican electronic act Nortec Collective and the critically acclaimed avant-classical Kronos Quartet. This event is free and open to the public.

LAMC Showcase @ The Palace
The LAMC Showcase features performances by established Latin hip-hop artists, as well as up and coming talent from the US, Mexico, and Latin America. This year’s performers include chart-toppers Akwid, LA’s own Delinquent Habits, SFDK (Spain) and several others to be announced shortly.

SATURDAY, AUGUST 16, 2003
Oiga: Emerging Voices from L.A.’s Visual Art Scene @ Avenue 50 Studio A celebration of visual art and music, Avenue 50 Studio and LAMC have teamed up to present the quirky, comic-inspired work of emerging visual artists Aaron Martinez, Ronald J. Llanos, Brendan Monroe, and Robert Bellm. Also featuring a free concert from East L.A. Sabor Factory and Domingo Siete.

LAMC/Grand Performances @ The California Plaza
LAMC presents the second evening of concerts with Grand Performances at The California Plaza Water Court in Downtown Los Angeles. This will be an enchanting summer evening outside, near the water, under the stars – with performances by Plastilina Mosh and Jumbo. Event is free and open to the public.

Closing Night Party @ El Rey Theatre
We’ve saved the best for last so LAMC attendees can really let loose. The closing night party will feature DJ’s, dancing, cocktails, an art gallery showcasing Latino artists, and plenty of fun. This is a private event open to LAMC participants, as well as special invited guests from the industry and entertainment community. Already slated for this year’s party is platinum Mexican sensation Natalia Lafourcade, with several other acts to be announced shortly. The DJ for the evening is DJ Mogt (Nortec Collective), who will be spinning tracks from ‘Colores’, a compilation featuring the best electronic artists from Mexico, Argentina and Chile.
