Dora the Explorer Celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month.

Dora the Explorer -the bilingual Latina girl who stars in the wildly popular animated program “Dora the Explorer”, for Nickelodeon’s Nick Jr. – for the first time will celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month in different cities of the United States. And she will do on her own style- reading, singing and dancing!
Nickelodeon, announces the program of activities especially created for Dora the Explorer to celebrate the pride of being Hispanic. This will take place in New York, Miami, Los Angeles, Chicago and Houston. “Nickelodeon is thrilled to be able to bring Dora to Hispanic Heritage celebrations around the country,” said Cyma Zarghami, President, Nickelodeon Television. “She empowers kids to be adventurous, kind and celebrate their heritage proudly.
David Perez, CEO of Latin Force – the Hispanic agency for Nickelodeon adds: “We are happy to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month by bringing Dora the Explorer to Hispanic children and their families. Dora is our icon. She brings into our homes a positive role model that shows all Hispanics that being bilingual is a powerful tool to enrich our future.
The Dora Hispanic celebrations kicked off September 11th, and will be extended though November 28th. This will include dances, songs, book readings, gifts, raffles and presentations of the Dora character, it will be an interactive series of events, which in certain cities will feature the personal appearance of Kathleen Herles, the Peruvian-American voice talent behind Dora the Explorer and a recent award recipient of the Latina Excellence Award’ for diversity in Hispanic Magazine.
Schedule of Activities:
1. The Latino Book & Family Festival – The largest Hispanic Book Festival in the United States. Travels from city to city promoting our culture and the importance of reading as a family affair. It will feature Dora’s book readings, sing-along and fun prizes!
Los Angeles: September 11th & 12th
Houston: Octubre 16th & 17th
Chicago: Noviembre 27th & 28th
2. Junta Hispana Festival – A joyful weekend of celebrations of Hispanic culture and traditions, in which 21 Latin American countries will be represented with their music, games, typical food, raffles and artisan’s kiosks. It takes place in Flushing Meadow Park in New York on September 26 and 27 – The Dora character will be present with l giveaways and raffles.
3. Series of Readings “Dora y los Niños” (Dora and the Children)– A pioneer program that promotes reading and the importance of being bilingual among children. It will make its debut on October 8th with a big celebration at “Hialeah Gardens Elementary School” –9702 N.W. 130 Street –Hialeah Gardens, Florida 33018 –a school with a majority of bilingual children in the Greater Miami area in Florida.
