Lakers & KWKW Radio Extend Broadcast Agreement.

The Los Angeles Lakers and KWKW Radio 1330 announced that they have reached agreement on a four-year extension to their existing contract for Spanish play-by-play of Lakers games. With the extension, the Lakers will continue to be heard in Spanish on KWKW through the 2005-2006 season.

“We are proud to continue our relationship with KWKW,” said Keith Harris, Lakers Executive Director/Multimedia Marketing. “We have broadcast our games in Spanish since 1993, the last 6 seasons on KWKW. They have been instrumental in our ability to create an enthusiastic following in the Latino community and their support has been invaluable.”

“The Latino community passionately supports the Lakers,” said KWKW Vice President and General Manager Jim Kalmenson. “KWKW considers it a unique privilege to offer both its listeners and advertising partners such coveted programming for the next 4 years. We greatly admire the Lakers’ long term support of Southern California’s Spanish speaking community.”

As part of their continuing relationship, the Lakers and KWKW will extend their presence in the Latino community with the first annual “Fiesta Lakers” event which will feature appearances by Lakers players, the Laker Girls and live performances by popular Latino artists. The event will take place Sunday, March 10 at the L.A. Convention Center.

Fernando Gonzalez and Jose “Pepe” Mantilla will continue to be the Voices of the Lakers in Spanish. All pre-season, regular season and playoff games will be carried on KWKW.
