Telemundo kicks-off second ‘Taller Telemundo: Escritores’.

Telemundo in conjunction with Miami Dade College formally introduced the new students and presented its curriculum for the sophomore session of the successful and educational initiative “Taller Telemundo: Escritores.”

Under the leadership of Telemundo Network President Don Browne, the network created “Taller Telemundo: Escritores” as an innovative program designed to recruit, train and inspire the next generation of fiction writers. In a strategic alliance with Miami Dade College North Campus, School of Entertainment and Design Technology, Telemundo once again is partnering to create a dynamic new curriculum that specifically prepares Hispanic writers in two new critical areas: fiction writing for TV and Digital Media. Telemundo writers and executives will lead the six-month program.

“We are thrilled to be moving into the second phase of ‘Taller Telemundo: Escritores,'” said Browne. “‘Taller Telemundo’ represents everything we believe in and addresses our most important goal: to communicate with our US Hispanic audience with relevance and respect. This course offers opportunities for these students to fulfill their dreams and inspires the next generation of Hispanic writers. There is nothing that makes us more excited about the future than this.”

The application process kicked off on March 1, 2006 through April 23, 2006 and drew applicants from all walks of life representing 32 states and 23 countries from as near as Miami and New York to as far away as Switzerland, Belize, Spain, and Lithuania. This year 23 students are participating in the Miami program. An additional pool of finalists has been selected for a future Los Angeles-based program that is anticipated to commence toward the latter part of 2006.

“Miami Dade College is proud to once again partner with Telemundo in this pioneering educational program that combines intensive instruction with hands-on, real-life experiences,” said Miami Dade College North Campus President, Dr. Jose Vicente.

The first run of “Taller Telemundo: Escritores” produced 14 graduates who successfully completed the 10-month course in December 2005. Eight of these graduates were hired full-time at Telemundo. Today they are writing for top-rated programs and leading successful Promotions, Digital Media and Cable writing projects.
