Ruiz – President Int’l Business Development @ Weather Channel LatAM.

The Weather Channel announced the appointment of Eduardo Ruiz to the newly created position of President of International Business Development. In addition to his continued responsibilities as President of The Weather Channel Latin America, Ruiz will lead new company-wide initiatives to extend TWC internet, wireless and interactive TV-based products internationally.

Since joining The Weather Channel in 1997, Ruiz spearheaded comprehensive efforts to build El Canal del Tiempo and O Canal do Tempo into the leading Spanish- and Portuguese-language weather information networks. He also played a key role in The Weather Channel’s launch of two Web sites, weather.com/brasil and weather.com/espanol, in 1998.

“We are fortunate to have Eddy’s leadership and extensive international experience as we continue to grow our company,” said Decker Anstrom, president and chief executive officer, The Weather Channel. “Thanks to Eddy and his team, The Weather Channel Latin America now serves more than eight million households in Latin America. With Eddy’s strong creative leadership, we look forward to bringing the expert, reliable weather information that consumers depend on from TWC to many parts of the world,” he said.

Ruiz will work closely with two senior TWC officials — Debora Wilson, president and CEO of weather.com, and Bahns Stanley, executive vice president, strategy and development.

Before coming to The Weather Channel, Ruiz was vice president to affiliate and advertising sales for Latin America at GEMS International Television where he oversaw all aspects of distribution throughout Latin America and the Caribbean.
